FluGen, Inc. is tackling the seasonal flu with a powerful new viral backbone designed to speed up vaccine manufacturing. U.S. Patent No. 12606804, titled ‘Influenza virus backbone’, introduces a viral structure that grows exceptionally well in specialized cell lines. This breakthrough ensures that drug makers can produce larger quantities of life-saving vaccines in shorter timeframes. It addresses the critical need for reliable and scalable influenza protection for global populations.
Optimizing Viral Growth for Global Needs
Traditional flu vaccine production often struggles with low yields and slow turnaround times. This new patent utilizes a modified influenza virus that demonstrates enhanced growth in Vero cells. By selecting specific gene segments, the company created a more robust viral engine for vaccine development. This active approach allows researchers to cultivate high concentrations of the virus more efficiently. Higher yields mean that manufacturers can respond faster to emerging flu threats and seasonal shortages.
Broad Protection and Rapid Response
The patented backbone serves as a foundation for next-generation immunogenic compositions. It helps the human immune system recognize and fight off diverse influenza strains. This technology simplifies the complex process of generating viral candidates for clinical use. Beyond speed, the innovation improves the overall quality and consistency of the final vaccine product. FluGen, Inc. is paving the way for a more resilient public health infrastructure. These advancements bring the world one step closer to a more effective and accessible flu shot.

What is the R&D Tax Credit?
The Research & Experimentation Tax Credit (or R&D Tax Credit), is a general business tax credit under Internal Revenue Code section 41 for companies that incur research and development (R&D) costs in the United States. The credits are a tax incentive for performing qualified research in the United States, resulting in a credit to a tax return. For the first three years of R&D claims, 6% of the total qualified research expenses (QRE) form the gross credit. In the 4th year of claims and beyond, a base amount is calculated, and an adjusted expense line is multiplied times 14%. Click here to learn more.
