CAVH LLC recently secured a major technological breakthrough with the issuance of U.S. Patent No. 12776206. This patent, titled ‘Autonomous vehicle intelligent control (AVIC) system with distributed AI computing’, introduces a powerful framework for managing autonomous driving capabilities. Connected vehicles can now seamlessly leverage roadside intelligence and edge computing to maintain safe operations during complex traffic scenarios.

WISCONSIN PATENT OF THE MONTH – NOVEMBER 2026

The invention, developed by Bin Ran, Yang Cheng, Shen Li, Fan Ding, Jing Jin, Xiaoxuan Chen, and Zhen Zhang, won the Wisconsin Patent of the Month for November 2026 granted by Swanson Reed. This system is highly innovative because it dynamically addresses the computing and sensor limitations of individual autonomous vehicles. By distributing artificial intelligence tasks across a synchronized network of vehicles and intelligent roadside infrastructure, the technology ensures uninterrupted automated driving even when onboard systems face unexpected challenges or system downgrades. This cooperative approach significantly improves the safety and reliability of driverless transportation networks.

Eligibility for the U.S. R&D Tax Credit

The practical applications of this patent present strong eligibility for the U.S. Research and Development Tax Credit. Developing this distributed intelligent control system required substantial engineering effort to integrate onboard vehicle sensors with complex cloud and edge computing architectures. The iterative testing, software coding, and system simulations necessary to refine the dynamic allocation of artificial intelligence tasks between a moving vehicle and external infrastructure all qualify as targeted research activities. Companies investing in similar technical trials and developmental improvements to resolve technological uncertainties can leverage these qualified research expenditures to secure valuable tax incentives.
