Rhode Island Patent of the Month – August 2024
Growgenics LLC, a cutting-edge LED growing light manufacturer, has secured a patent for their grow light technology. Their goal is to transform how indoor and vertical farming is approached.
At its core, this system features a modular design with multiple light modules and an intelligent controller that enhances plant growth efficiency. By using light-emitting diodes (LEDs) capable of emitting specific wavelengths tailored for plants, this assembly not only minimizes energy consumption but also ensures optimal light exposure from various angles.
A standout feature is its selectable inspection mode, allowing growers to switch between simulating day and night cycles seamlessly. This mode is particularly valuable for assessing plant health without disrupting their light exposure. In daytime mode, the light emits a spectrum rich in red and blue wavelengths essential for photosynthesis, while in inspection mode, it can shift to white or green light, facilitating easy monitoring without the risk of overstimulation or stress to the plants.
Growgenics’ system also addresses common issues faced by traditional grow lights, such as excessive heat and inconsistent light coverage. By positioning the LEDs just a few inches above the plant canopy, the assembly delivers concentrated photonic energy while producing significantly less heat, allowing for closer placement and better light penetration to lower foliage.
The integration of advanced sensors and automated adjustment capabilities ensures that the light modules can adapt as the plants grow. This dynamic response not only fosters healthier growth patterns but also reduces the risk of energy waste. By continuously analyzing environmental conditions and plant needs, the system offers a level of precision and control previously unattainable in indoor horticulture. With its cutting-edge technology, Growgenics LLC is poised to set new standards in sustainable and efficient plant cultivation.
Are you developing new technology for an existing application? Did you know your development work could be eligible for the R&D Tax Credit and you can receive up to 14% back on your expenses? Even if your development isn’t successful your work may still qualify for R&D credits (i.e. you don’t need to have a patent to qualify). What is the R&D Tax Credit?
The Research & Experimentation Tax Credit (or R&D Tax Credit), is a general business tax credit under Internal Revenue Code section 41 for companies that incur research and development (R&D) costs in the United States. The credits are a tax incentive for performing qualified research in the United States, resulting in a credit to a tax return. For the first three years of R&D claims, 6% of the total qualified research expenses (QRE) form the gross credit. In the 4th year of claims and beyond, a base amount is calculated, and an adjusted expense line is multiplied times 14%. Click here to learn more.
