Tennessee Patent of the Month – July 2025
A new U.S. patent from SkyNano LLC introduces an innovative method for carbon capture. The invention, U.S. Patent No. 12344526, titled ‘System and method for separation of salts and carbon allotropes,’ details a process that transforms captured carbon dioxide into valuable materials. This advancement offers a direct path from industrial emissions to commercial products. It represents a significant step in sustainable manufacturing. The technology uses electrochemistry to convert CO2 efficiently.
New Path for Carbon Capture
The patented technology focuses on turning waste into wealth. Instead of simply storing carbon, SkyNano’s system creates useful carbon-based materials. These materials include multiwalled carbon nanotubes and graphene flakes. The process is a low-cost, efficient alternative to traditional methods. It shifts production away from heat-intensive industrial processes. This makes it a greener, more economical choice for many industries. The invention has potential applications across multiple sectors. These include energy and advanced materials.
Real-World Impact and Innovation
This innovation has significant commercial implications. The carbon materials produced can be used in batteries, tires, and coatings. This can improve product performance and sustainability. The company is actively scaling up its production capacity. This will allow it to serve a broader range of industries. By converting carbon emissions into products, SkyNano’s system addresses a dual challenge. It reduces environmental pollution while creating new economic opportunities. This method provides a clear, tangible benefit for a cleaner future.

What is the R&D Tax Credit?
The Research & Experimentation Tax Credit (or R&D Tax Credit), is a general business tax credit under Internal Revenue Code section 41 for companies that incur research and development (R&D) costs in the United States. The credits are a tax incentive for performing qualified research in the United States, resulting in a credit to a tax return. For the first three years of R&D claims, 6% of the total qualified research expenses (QRE) form the gross credit. In the 4th year of claims and beyond, a base amount is calculated, and an adjusted expense line is multiplied times 14%. Click here to learn more.
