Texas Patent of the Month – October 2024
EnLiSense LLC has introduced a cutting-edge wearable biosensor system that redefines how we monitor and diagnose health conditions non-invasively. This advanced device seamlessly integrates innovative materials, like semiconducting oxides and Room-Temperature Ionic Liquids (RTILs), to provide real-time, multiplexed analysis of bodily fluids such as sweat, saliva, and tears.
The core of the invention lies in its ability to detect multiple biomarkers simultaneously on a single platform. Traditional biosensors often limit detection to one molecule at a time, but EnLiSense’s solution employs functionalized semiconducting oxides and tailored affinity probes to bind with various analytes. This allows for comprehensive health assessments, capturing critical data on electrolytes, proteins, and metabolites.
RTILs play a pivotal role by stabilizing the biosensor’s biological components, ensuring long-term reliability even during continuous exposure to fluids. These unique liquids enhance protein and enzyme stability, making the system robust for 24-hour monitoring across varying conditions. Additionally, RTILs’ antimicrobial properties contribute to safer and more effective diagnostics.
The biosensor’s flexible, skin-contacting design ensures comfort for users while providing high sensitivity in detecting analytes from minute fluid samples. This versatility supports both active and passive monitoring, adapting to diverse medical and wellness applications.
EnLiSense’s biosensor integrates with microcontrollers for seamless data processing and wireless communication to cloud systems. This connectivity enables users and healthcare professionals to access real-time insights and historical data, fostering informed decision-making and personalized treatment plans.
By advancing wearable diagnostics to detect multiple biomarkers with precision and durability, EnLiSense’s invention represents a significant leap in point-of-care health monitoring. It not only empowers individuals with proactive health management but also aids in reducing healthcare costs through early detection and tailored interventions. This innovation promises to revolutionize how we approach health and wellness in a connected world.

What is the R&D Tax Credit?
The Research & Experimentation Tax Credit (or R&D Tax Credit), is a general business tax credit under Internal Revenue Code section 41 for companies that incur research and development (R&D) costs in the United States. The credits are a tax incentive for performing qualified research in the United States, resulting in a credit to a tax return. For the first three years of R&D claims, 6% of the total qualified research expenses (QRE) form the gross credit. In the 4th year of claims and beyond, a base amount is calculated, and an adjusted expense line is multiplied times 14%. Click here to learn more.
