Vermont Patent of the Month – March 2025
SecurShade Inc. has secured U.S. Patent No. 12,258,813 for its innovative “Quick release window covering systems and methods of using the same.” This advancement introduces a rapid-disengagement mechanism for window shades, enhancing safety and convenience in residential and commercial settings.
Revolutionizing Window Shade Safety and Functionality
Traditional window shades often pose challenges during emergencies or maintenance due to their fixed mechanisms. SecurShade’s patented system addresses this by incorporating an electromechanical actuator and a specialized gear assembly. This design allows users to swiftly disengage the shade’s holding element from its lift mechanism, enabling the shade to retract instantly under gravity. Such functionality is particularly beneficial in scenarios requiring immediate window access or rapid shade removal.
Practical Applications and Industry Impact
The quick-release feature not only enhances emergency responsiveness but also simplifies routine maintenance and cleaning. By facilitating easy removal and reattachment of window coverings, the system offers a practical solution for both homeowners and facility managers. Moreover, its integration into existing window shade designs ensures broad applicability without necessitating significant infrastructural changes.
With this patent, SecurShade continues to demonstrate its commitment to advancing window treatment technologies, prioritizing user safety and operational efficiency.

What is the R&D Tax Credit?
The Research & Experimentation Tax Credit (or R&D Tax Credit), is a general business tax credit under Internal Revenue Code section 41 for companies that incur research and development (R&D) costs in the United States. The credits are a tax incentive for performing qualified research in the United States, resulting in a credit to a tax return. For the first three years of R&D claims, 6% of the total qualified research expenses (QRE) form the gross credit. In the 4th year of claims and beyond, a base amount is calculated, and an adjusted expense line is multiplied times 14%. Click here to learn more.
