Idaho Patent of the Month – March 2021
Many plastics are based in petrochemicals. They offer benefits such as being lightweight, strong, and durable. However, they are not biodegradable. Replacing some of the petrochemicals with starches offers increased sustainability. As these methods have grown in popularity, one recurring issue is the odor that comes with them. This odor is typically described as a burned starch odor, a popcorn-like oder, or a caramel corn type odor. BioLogiQ, Inc. has reconfigured the design to eliminate this odor.
During the production of the sustainable resin plastics, BioLogiQ introduced an organic odor-reducing agent in a very small concentration. The odor-reducing agent, starch-based polymeric material, and polymeric resin material are mixed, heated, and molded into the desired product. The final product is just as biodegradable and sustainable but lacks the odor seen before.
About BioLogiQ, Inc.
BioLogiQ is a bioplastic resin manufacturing company. They make and sell sustainable thermoplastic polymer resins that are affordable. Their customers use their resins to make high quality plastic products on their existing equipment including plastic films and bags for use in the plastics packaging industry. They believe we can help achieve a significant reduction in the amount of environmental waste by creating plastic products made from renewable resources and providing them to the masses.

What is the R&D Tax Credit?
The Research & Experimentation Tax Credit (or R&D Tax Credit), is a general business tax credit under Internal Revenue Code section 41 for companies that incur research and development (R&D) costs in the United States. The credits are a tax incentive for performing qualified research in the United States, resulting in a credit to a tax return. For the first three years of R&D claims, 6% of the total qualified research expenses (QRE) form the gross credit. In the 4th year of claims and beyond, a base amount is calculated, and an adjusted expense line is multiplied times 14%. Click here to learn more.
