Louisiana Patent of the Month – January 2023
SkyRunner, LLC has been making waves in the transportation industry with their latest invention, a multimodal vehicle that combines the freedom of flight with the versatility of an off-road vehicle. The newly-patented vehicle has both a propeller engine and a ground engine, and a flexible wing that can be easily attached to the frame. With its unique design, the multimodal vehicle can be transformed from an off-road vehicle to a light-sports aircraft in a matter of minutes, giving users the freedom to go anywhere, whether it’s through rough terrains or the skies.
While there have been other attempts at a dual-purpose land and air vehicle, none have been able to effectively navigate rough terrains and take off or land within short distances. SkyRunner’s unique design has achieved the ability to take off and land in relatively short distances, using ram-air parafoil wing technology. This means that open fields, grass strips, and secluded beaches can become runways for the SkyRunner. Once in the air, the vehicle can reach speeds of at least 50 mph and soar to altitudes of 3,000 feet or more. It also offers an exhilarating experience for pilots, allowing them to see the world from a low vantage point that is not possible with most fixed-wing airplanes.
The SkyRunner is also designed with military and first responders in mind. The vehicle’s combination of off-road and aerial functionality make it the perfect tool for transporting individuals into or away from areas that are inaccessible by road. With its short takeoff and landing needs, it can maneuver quickly over rough terrains and exit the area quickly.
The body of the SkyRunner has an angular appearance and an exposed tubular exoskeleton, making it both stylish and capable. The body construction uses seamless air-hardened, heat-treated steel tubing to achieve immense strength with lower weight penalties. The open architecture of the vehicle delivers a stripped-back driving experience that is both unique and thrilling.

What is the R&D Tax Credit?
The Research & Experimentation Tax Credit (or R&D Tax Credit), is a general business tax credit under Internal Revenue Code section 41 for companies that incur research and development (R&D) costs in the United States. The credits are a tax incentive for performing qualified research in the United States, resulting in a credit to a tax return. For the first three years of R&D claims, 6% of the total qualified research expenses (QRE) form the gross credit. In the 4th year of claims and beyond, a base amount is calculated, and an adjusted expense line is multiplied times 14%. Click here to learn more.
