California Patent of the Month – November 2023
Fungal pathogens are a leading contributor to crop loss and food waste. While there are microbes and other treatments that try to mitigate these pathogens, many of them strip the crop of any organic status and impact their post-harvest potential. Boost Biomes, Inc. has found a way to harness the power of microbes without compromising the crop.
The patented composition combines specific microbes, bringing their efficacies together into a single, more powerful solution. At the heart of this innovation is a superhero microbe armed with exceptional genetic codes, acting as a guardian for plants. The superhero, Gluconobacter cerinus, and its trusty sidekick, Hanseniaspora uvarum, act as a dynamic duo fighting against their fungal adversaries.
Boost Biomes has covered all the bases – this composition doesn’t just repel the undesired fungal pathogens for a day; it reduces their growth by 10% compared to control samples. In addition to efficacy, the versatility is impressive; it’s not limited to a single crop or a specific type of threat. This superhero potion defends everything from almonds to wheat, standing as a universal shield against fungal pathogens. Moreover, it plays well with other agricultural companions like fertilizers and pesticides.

What is the R&D Tax Credit?
The Research & Experimentation Tax Credit (or R&D Tax Credit), is a general business tax credit under Internal Revenue Code section 41 for companies that incur research and development (R&D) costs in the United States. The credits are a tax incentive for performing qualified research in the United States, resulting in a credit to a tax return. For the first three years of R&D claims, 6% of the total qualified research expenses (QRE) form the gross credit. In the 4th year of claims and beyond, a base amount is calculated, and an adjusted expense line is multiplied times 14%. Click here to learn more.
