Idaho Patent of the Month – November 2023
RescueStat, LLC’s revolutionary automated external defibrillator (AED) Monitor is transforming how we oversee automated external defibrillators, taking a substantial leap forward from the archaic systems of the past. Imagine a world where these life-saving devices are intelligently monitored, ensuring they’re in top-notch shape when they’re needed the most.
The traditional AEDs often fall prey to a lack of maintenance. Forgotten on walls, concealed in cabinets, these devices fall victim to dead batteries, expired pads, and numerous other issues. The consequences are dire – ineffective AEDs during critical moments, leading to devastating outcomes.
RescueStat’s invention is more than just a monitoring system; it’s a lifeguard for the lifeguards, a guardian for the guardians. It identifies when an AED encounters a fault, silently sending an alert to a remote monitoring system without waiting for human intervention. This critical alert ensures immediate action, bypassing the troubles of regular, often forgotten physical checkups.
The brilliance lies in its simplicity: using the AEDs’ inherent diagnostics, the system comprehends their status without draining their batteries or consuming excess power. Its approach is elegant – wake up, sense the AED’s self-inspection process, listen for a fault signal, and relay the findings via wireless communication, all the while conserving its own power.
The invention’s potential is immense. It doesn’t just aim to ensure AEDs are operational; it’s designed to cater to various models and indicators used in these devices. A camera-based system might be complex and battery-draining, but RescueStat’s method leverages the AEDs’ intrinsic functionality, even adapting to various inspection schedules across different AED models.
The invention is ingeniously designed to align with the minimal life goal of five years for battery operation. Its low-power microcontroller acts as a sentinel, programmed to wake up precisely before the AED’s self-check. Harnessing electromagnetic signals and audible indicators, the system smartly detects faults without draining the AED’s battery. RescueStat’s innovation offers an efficient method, ensuring AEDs remain battle-ready without being forgotten or neglected.
RescueStat has been building lifesaving technology since 2002. They were first known as Stat PADS – building a name on providing public access defibrillation services for owners of AEDs. With a rebrand to RescueStat, the company worked to affirm that they offered more than just AED adhesive pads. They have held steadfast to this mission, building technologies to make saving lives more reliable.

What is the R&D Tax Credit?
The Research & Experimentation Tax Credit (or R&D Tax Credit), is a general business tax credit under Internal Revenue Code section 41 for companies that incur research and development (R&D) costs in the United States. The credits are a tax incentive for performing qualified research in the United States, resulting in a credit to a tax return. For the first three years of R&D claims, 6% of the total qualified research expenses (QRE) form the gross credit. In the 4th year of claims and beyond, a base amount is calculated, and an adjusted expense line is multiplied times 14%. Click here to learn more.
