Louisiana Patent of the Month – August 2024
ARIX Technologies, Inc., a robotics firm, has engineered an innovative fail-safe mechanism that revolutionizes how robots traverse pipes in challenging environments. This breakthrough addresses the critical need for safety and efficiency in pipe inspection, particularly in scenarios where robots must navigate obstacles without risking a fall.
The fail-safe mechanism features a uniquely designed curved arm that extends and retracts along the pipe’s circumference, ensuring the robot remains securely attached even when encountering obstacles. Powered by a motor, the arm can adaptively close around the pipe or create a gap wide enough for obstacles to pass through, allowing the robot to continue its inspection uninterrupted. This ability to maneuver over or around obstructions while maintaining a firm grip on the pipe significantly reduces the risk of accidents, which could otherwise lead to costly damage and safety hazards.
What sets ARIX’s invention apart is its compatibility with various pipe dimensions and the minimal profile it maintains around the pipe. The system’s adaptability ensures that it can be employed in a wide range of industrial settings, offering a reliable solution for inspecting both horizontal and vertical pipes without the need for extensive manual intervention.
This technological advancement marks a significant step forward in robotic pipe inspection, making the process safer, more efficient, and capable of handling complex environments with ease. ARIX Technologies’ innovation is poised to set a new standard in the field, combining safety with cutting-edge engineering to meet the demands of modern industrial applications.

What is the R&D Tax Credit?
The Research & Experimentation Tax Credit (or R&D Tax Credit), is a general business tax credit under Internal Revenue Code section 41 for companies that incur research and development (R&D) costs in the United States. The credits are a tax incentive for performing qualified research in the United States, resulting in a credit to a tax return. For the first three years of R&D claims, 6% of the total qualified research expenses (QRE) form the gross credit. In the 4th year of claims and beyond, a base amount is calculated, and an adjusted expense line is multiplied times 14%. Click here to learn more.
