Bodify and Interplay are Latest Recipients of Digital Sandbox KC Funding

Digital Sandbox KC aims to provide proof-of-concept resources to support early-stage commercialization processes. They offer a one time grant to help accelerate startups into the next stage. Digital Sandbox KC is committed to diversity in their mission to bring innovative ideas in the Kansas City region to life. Their most recent round of funding has gone to two black women-led companies.

Bodify was founded by Carlanda McKinney. She noticed the frustration associated with selecting the right size when online shopping and decided a solution was needed. She began developing a web-based platform which leverages computer vision and AI to determine size and fit for clothes. This could help the customers and the companies by reducing return rates.

Interplay – founded by Jonaie Johnson – aims to help dog lovers with her remote control interactive crate software. Her program allows dog owners to open and close the crate, see, talk, dispense food and water to their dog from their phone.

Digital Sandbox KC provides that initial funding that can really help a startup take off. Jill Meyer, senior director of the Technology Venture Studio at the UMKC Innovation Center, which administers Digital Sandbox, says, “Early innovations like these are exactly what our region needs—innovations that will create jobs and move our economy forward.”
