SE Aeronautics Released a Tri-Wing Aircraft Design

SE Aeronautics – an Alabama-based startup – has just released their designs for a revolutionary wide-bodied airliner. They believe their design will reduce carbon emissions by 80% and fuel usage by 70%. With the rapid growth of air transportation and the large contribution to GHG emissions, something needs to change.

Their design features 3 sets of super lightweight wings, engines at the rear, and a single-piece build to maximize efficiency and safety. In traditional designs, wings act as a storage space. SE Aeronautics have thinned the wings and moved fuel storage to a bladder above the fuselage. This helps to improve lift over drag and helps the plane to stay afloat longer if it ends up stranded in an emergency water landing.

They anticipate that their design could carry 264 passengers approximately 10,560 miles, with a maximum takeoff weight of 170,000 lbs. Tyler Matthews, CEO of SE Aeronautics says:

“This aircraft will be the most practical, profitable and permanent solution to the grossly underperforming airliner technology of today. Our manufacturing efficiency will allow us to produce our aircraft in significantly less time than the current traditional method. But the jewel in the crown is really our ability to get that fuel consumption rate down by 70%. We are going to revolutionize the industry.”

The aviation industry is looking for ways to reduce carbon emissions and improve environmental sustainability – but air travel continues to grow. SE Aeronautics could be a catch-all way to reduce emissions, fuel consumption, and production time.

Are you developing new technology for an existing application? Did you know your development work could be eligible for the R&D Tax Credit and you can receive up to 14% back on your expenses? Even if your development isn’t successful your work may still qualify for R&D credits (i.e. you don’t need to have a patent to qualify). To find out more, please contact a Swanson Reed R&D Specialist today or check out our free online eligibility test.
