Maui Imaging Secures $4M DOD Contract, Emerges from Stealth
Maui Imaging, a Tucson-based startup, has emerged from stealth mode with a $4 million DOD contract. The company has been building an ultrasound system capable of visualizing the anatomy that others cannot.
MAUI was founded in 2006, bringing together experts in the fields of sonar, radar, electrical engineering, and medical imaging. With experts in line, the startup began their research, building their breakthrough Computed Echo Tomography (CET).
Since their founding, they have achieved more than 160 U.S. and international patents. Their latest, FDA cleared product has caught the attention of the Department of Defense. Their K3900 imaging system is being tested to aid military medical personnel in diagnosing and treating traumatic injuries.
One crucial application being tested by the DOD and clinical studies is thanks to the technology’s ability to image through the skull without a significant fracture or surgically removing bone. This would be beneficial when soldiers need clinical insight but cannot access advanced imaging.
Are you developing new technology for an existing application? Did you know your development work could be eligible for the R&D Tax Credit and you can receive up to 14% back on your expenses? Even if your development isn’t successful your work may still qualify for R&D credits (i.e. you don’t need to have a patent to qualify). To find out more, please contact a Swanson Reed R&D Specialist today or check out our free online eligibility test.
