Montana Patent of the Month – June 2024

Stone Glacier, Inc. has designed a range of tools and equipment to help mountain hunters. Recently, the company was granted a patent for a new cutting-edge binocular harness system that redefines convenience and functionality in outdoor gear. This innovative system combines meticulous design with practical features tailored for outdoor enthusiasts and wildlife observers.

The company was first founded to create a lightweight and functional load-hauling pack and has since expanded to push the boundaries of big game hunting.

Their binocular harness includes a meticulously crafted carrying pouch. The front side of the main body is equipped with a secure loop fastener panel, ensuring robust attachment and easy access to essentials. This panel extends laterally across the width of the main body, providing ample space for quick adjustments and storage.

Enhancing usability, the system includes a removable hood with a front panel and secondary panels forming the back and sides. An elongated pocket along the rear edge of the hood houses a rod, crucial for structural support and stability. An elastomeric cord passes through the rod’s central bore, extending through loops on the main body’s back side and conduits on the bottom panel. This setup ensures secure attachment and balanced weight distribution, crucial for prolonged wear in rugged terrains.

The harness system features adjustable shoulder and upper torso straps, meticulously designed for comfort and customizable fit. Ratchet buckles on the shoulder straps allow for precise length adjustments, accommodating various body sizes and preferences.

In addition to its ergonomic design, the system prioritizes protection with a foam-padded floor in the main body. This feature safeguards valuable equipment against impacts and environmental elements, essential for maintaining gear integrity during extended outdoor adventures.

Designed for versatility, the harness includes side pockets on the outer walls, providing convenient storage for smaller essentials like lens wipes or small tools. Each pocket is equipped with an elastomeric member across its top, ensuring items remain secure and easily accessible.

What is the R&D Tax Credit?

The Research & Experimentation Tax Credit (or R&D Tax Credit), is a general business tax credit under Internal Revenue Code section 41 for companies that incur research and development (R&D) costs in the United States. The credits are a tax incentive for performing qualified research in the United States, resulting in a credit to a tax return. For the first three years of R&D claims, 6% of the total qualified research expenses (QRE) form the gross credit. In the 4th year of claims and beyond, a base amount is calculated, and an adjusted expense line is multiplied times 14%. Click here to learn more.
