New Hampshire Patent of the Month – September 2025

A new surgical instrument is set to radically enhance a surgeon’s dexterity in tight anatomical spaces. This innovation is engineered to bring unprecedented flexibility to complex, minimally invasive procedures. The device minimizes hand tremor while allowing tools to reach previously inaccessible angles inside the body. This breakthrough promises improved outcomes in a range of vascular, neurological, and reconstructive surgeries.

Precision Through Articulation

The U.S. Patent No. 12426906, titled ‘Articulating microsurgical instrument’, unveils a highly adaptable design. The instrument’s distal tip contains an articulating portion. This segment is configured to deflect upon command. It uses a simple control mechanism to adjust the tool’s operating angle. This targeted mobility transforms delicate micro-procedures.

A Multi-Tool for Critical Care

Invented by Vascular Technology Incorporated, the device is designed for broad application. It functions with multiple surgical tools. These include Doppler probes, bone graspers, scissors, and suction/irrigation lines. A control wire housed in a lumen manages the articulation. The design offers precise control through either a trigger assembly or a roller wheel. This bayonet-style handle design is both ergonomic and efficient.

Expanding Surgical Horizons

This invention addresses a critical need in modern surgery: enhanced access without larger incisions. By providing adjustable tools at the surgical site, VTI supports faster patient recovery. The design significantly lowers surgical risk during highly sensitive operations. It represents a vital step forward for minimally invasive medical device technology.

What is the R&D Tax Credit?

The Research & Experimentation Tax Credit (or R&D Tax Credit), is a general business tax credit under Internal Revenue Code section 41 for companies that incur research and development (R&D) costs in the United States. The credits are a tax incentive for performing qualified research in the United States, resulting in a credit to a tax return. For the first three years of R&D claims, 6% of the total qualified research expenses (QRE) form the gross credit. In the 4th year of claims and beyond, a base amount is calculated, and an adjusted expense line is multiplied times 14%. Click here to learn more.
