Viking Pump, Inc. is revolutionizing biopharmaceutical manufacturing with a new pump design that handles delicate materials with extreme care. This innovation addresses the critical need for high-yield, low-shear fluid transfer in medical and laboratory settings. U.S. Patent Application No. 20260022690, titled ‘Expandable, inner liner pump’, introduces a system designed to protect sensitive biological structures like cells and proteins during transport.
The Science of Gentle Pumping
The system features a multi-layered liner setup within a primary housing. A flexible inner liner creates the main chamber for the biological fluid. This liner expands and contracts to move liquids smoothly without the harsh turbulence found in traditional gear or lobe pumps. By using air pressure control through specialized valves, the pump maintains a steady, non-destructive flow regime.
Real-World Impact and Efficiency
Manufacturers often struggle with product loss due to mechanical shear. Viking Pump, Inc. solves this by making the inner liner easily removable. This design allows for rapid cleaning or replacement, ensuring high hygiene standards for every batch. These advancements reduce waste and lower production costs for life-saving medicines.

What is the R&D Tax Credit?
The Research & Experimentation Tax Credit (or R&D Tax Credit), is a general business tax credit under Internal Revenue Code section 41 for companies that incur research and development (R&D) costs in the United States. The credits are a tax incentive for performing qualified research in the United States, resulting in a credit to a tax return. For the first three years of R&D claims, 6% of the total qualified research expenses (QRE) form the gross credit. In the 4th year of claims and beyond, a base amount is calculated, and an adjusted expense line is multiplied times 14%. Click here to learn more.
