San Bernardino, California Patent of the Year – 2024/2025

Fenix Space Inc. has been awarded the 2024/2025 Patent of the Year for its breakthrough in air-launch technology. Their invention, detailed in U.S. Patent No. 11866202, titled ‘System and method for improved air-launch of a launch vehicle from a towed aircraft’, introduces a novel system for deploying launch vehicles from towed aircraft, aiming to make space access more efficient and cost-effective.

The patented method involves towing a launch vehicle attached to an articulating carriage behind a powered aircraft. Once at altitude, the system releases the assembly, allowing the towed aircraft to climb higher before deploying the launch vehicle. This approach enables launches from various locations without the need for traditional ground-based infrastructure.

By reducing reliance on fixed launch sites, Fenix Space’s innovation offers greater flexibility for satellite deployment and other missions. The system’s design also allows for rapid reusability and adaptability to different payloads, potentially lowering the barriers to entry for space endeavors.

This advancement reflects a growing trend in the aerospace industry toward more versatile and responsive launch solutions. Fenix Space Inc.’s contribution could play a significant role in shaping the future of space transportation.
