Salad Days Hydroponic Farm Secures $8.5M in Expansion Funds
Salad Days Hydroponic Farm, based in Flora, has secured $8.5 million in funding to support their expansion. The hydroponic farm is planning to expand their facility by an additional 65,000 sq ft.
The new facility will include an automated greenhouse which will add at least 20 new full time positions.
The expansion was necessitated volume of interest in the business, which provides its popular pesticide-free lettuce to a multitude of restaurants and other business in an area of about 200 miles around Flora.
What they do is called indoor hydroponic farming and is referred to as Controlled Environment Agriculture. As a result of the expansion, Salad Days will be able to increase production volume eight times over current levels and will enable them to adequately supply the larger grocery chains and regional produce distributors.
