Idaho Patent of the Month – June 2023

Suppressors have long improved firearms and weapons, reducing the noise of a gunshot and making it a more comfortable and practical experience for the shooter. Primary Weapons Systems (PWS) was founded in 2008 by firearm enthusiasts to continue this path to improving weapons for all users.

Recently, the company has been granted a patent for their innovative multi-core design. This cutting-edge technology provides enhanced noise reduction and durability, addressing the limitations of traditional suppressor systems. Traditional firearm suppressors often suffer from damage to the central portion of the baffles due to repeated use. This can render the suppressor ineffective or require the replacement of the entire unit. PWS’s multi-core suppressor tackles this issue by offering a modular design that allows for the replacement of only the damaged portions of the baffles.

The suppressor consists of a housing with a central main core positioned within it. The central main core features a series of central baffle portions aligned along the centerline, forming a projectile path. Additionally, there are first and second side cores located between the housing and each side of the central main core. These side cores have their own sets of baffle portions that engage the central baffle portions, resulting in a configuration of multiple baffles within the housing.

What sets PWS’s multi-core suppressor apart is its versatility and adaptability. The central main core includes internal threads at both ends, allowing for easy attachment to a firearm’s barrel or connection to other components. The second end of the central main core can accommodate modular baffles or an end cap, providing further customization options.

Furthermore, the housing of the suppressor features exterior grooves that enhance grip and facilitate handling. The first and second side cores interlock with the central main core, forming an enclosed entrance chamber that strengthens the overall structure.

With its innovative design and modular construction, the PWS multi-core suppressor offers improved performance, longevity, and maintenance convenience. Shooters can replace damaged parts without the need for a complete replacement, saving both time and money.

What is the R&D Tax Credit?

The Research & Experimentation Tax Credit (or R&D Tax Credit), is a general business tax credit under Internal Revenue Code section 41 for companies that incur research and development (R&D) costs in the United States. The credits are a tax incentive for performing qualified research in the United States, resulting in a credit to a tax return. For the first three years of R&D claims, 6% of the total qualified research expenses (QRE) form the gross credit. In the 4th year of claims and beyond, a base amount is calculated, and an adjusted expense line is multiplied times 14%. Click here to learn more.
