Virginia Patent of the Month – May 2024

The modern power grid is a marvel of engineering, with its intricate web of transmission lines, distribution substations, and transformers delivering electricity to our homes and businesses. Yet, ensuring the reliability and safety of this complex system requires constant vigilance and innovative solutions. That’s where GRID20/20, Inc. steps in with its newly patented monitoring device, poised to revolutionize how we safeguard our power infrastructure.

At the heart of GRID20/20’s invention lies a sophisticated monitoring device equipped with an array of sensors capable of detecting not only voltage fluctuations but also environmental conditions surrounding distribution transformers. Voltage sensors integrated into the device housing diligently monitoring the power cables on distribution transformers, while environmental sensors, including smoke and fire detectors, keep a watchful eye on any signs of danger in the vicinity.

With a powerful processor at its core, this device not only detects anomalies but also transmits real-time alerts to a central computing device, ensuring swift remedial action can be taken. Whether it’s a spike in ambient temperature signaling a potential fire hazard or the presence of noxious gases posing a threat to nearby communities, GRID20/20’s monitoring device is designed to keep our power infrastructure safe and secure.

From monitoring nuclear radiation levels to detecting seismic activity, this device is equipped to handle a wide range of environmental threats. And with customizable programming and automated alerting features, it provides utility companies with the tools they need to respond proactively to emerging challenges.

Perhaps most impressive is GRID20/20’s ability to uncover asset mapping errors within a utility’s system. By verifying the correct mapping association of meters to transformers, this device ensures the integrity of the entire power grid, helping utility companies optimize their operations and improve efficiency.

What is the R&D Tax Credit?

The Research & Experimentation Tax Credit (or R&D Tax Credit), is a general business tax credit under Internal Revenue Code section 41 for companies that incur research and development (R&D) costs in the United States. The credits are a tax incentive for performing qualified research in the United States, resulting in a credit to a tax return. For the first three years of R&D claims, 6% of the total qualified research expenses (QRE) form the gross credit. In the 4th year of claims and beyond, a base amount is calculated, and an adjusted expense line is multiplied times 14%. Click here to learn more.
