ColdQuanta Announces Dan Caruso as Interim CEO

ColdQuanta Inc. has announced the introduction of their new executive chairman and interim CEO, Dan Caruso. Caruso was previously the CEO of Zayo Group Holdings Inc., a telecommunications giant. He has switched gears and decided to pursue his interest in quantum by joining ColdQuanta.

ColdQuanta, a quantum startup based in Boulder, Colorado, has been progressing with their developments of various quantum computing, sensing and networking applications. They specifically focus on Cold Atom Quantum Technology.

Classic computers use binary calculations – 1s and 0s. A single state – a 1 or 0, on or off, and so on – is referred to as a bit. Quantum computers perform calculations based on the probability of an object’s state before it is measured – instead of just 1s or 0s – which means they have the potential to process exponentially more data. They use quantum bits or qubits which are capable of encoding 2 bits of information. ColdQuanta believes Hilbert, their 2021 cloud-based Quantum Computer, will achieve 100 qubits. For reference, most of our classic computers operate in 32 or 64-bit processors and 100 qubits could potentially contain 200 bits.

Caruso is hoping to help scale up the company as they begin shifting from pure R&D to a commercial business. “When I realized the potential they had, I also realized they had some serious gaps. This is an R&D company that’s beginning its transition to a commercial company, but they don’t have the business or marketing skill set,” he said. “I couldn’t help myself by saying ‘I think I can help make this happen’”. He doesn’t plan to stay as CEO for long, looking to find someone to fill the role following former-CEO Bo Ewald’s retirement announcement. Caruso has high hopes for ColdQuanta and the projects they are working on.

Are you developing new technology for a new application? Did you know your development work could be eligible for the R&D Tax Credit and you can receive up to 14% back on your expenses? Even if your development isn’t successful your work may still qualify for R&D credits (i.e. you don’t need to have a patent to qualify).
