RAD Game Tools and Epic Games Unite to Work on the Unreal Engine

RAD Game Tools design video game development tools. Their designs have appeared in more than 24,600 games, and now Epic Games have taken them in. In a recent deal, Epic acquired the technology and business of RAD, working to integrate their products into Epic’s Unreal Engine. Unreal Engine is the world’s most open and advanced real-time 3D creation platform for photoreal visuals and immersive experiences in game development.

Epic used RAD’s compression technology in their games, including Fortnite. The technology was so impressive that it inspired Epic to strike this deal with RAD. RAD has been developing innovative game tools and software since 1988 and the same team will continue their R&D from their offices in North Carolina. They will connect with Epics teams to work on rendering, animation, Insights, and audio projects to enhance the Unreal Engine even further. RAD’s connections with other companies throughout the game, film, and television industries will continue as normal with access to RAD’s previous proprietary technology.

Are you developing new technology? Did you know your development work could be eligible for the R&D Tax Credit and you can receive up to 14% back on your expenses? Even if your development isn’t successful your work may still qualify for R&D credits (i.e. you don’t need to have a patent to qualify). To find out more, please contact a Swanson Reed R&D Specialist today or check out our free online eligibility test.
