Florida Patent of the Month – July 2021
Entertainment venues often use strobes, lights, fog, and other visual effects to create a desired atmosphere that matches the event. One particular visual effect is to use fog or haze filled bubbles. The current standard method to achieve this, is to have a fog machine pointed towards a bubble wand coated in bubble solution. However, the fog may spread around the wands, producing haze filled bubbles as well as spreading a general fog over the event space. Chauvet & Sons, LLC has designed an improved and more directed system to ensure all the haze is encapsulated in the bubbles and does not pollute the event if undesired.
Their system properly fills bubbles with fog and in rapid succession to allow for a continuous flow of bubbles. Most bubble blowers require a rotational motor that dips the wand into bubble solution, thereby causing a break in the flow of bubbles. The system design allows for bubble solution to be pumped into the bubble wand. The wand is equipped with a wiper which cycles across the face of the wand to distribute the fluid. A haze generator then pumps fog into an enclosed chamber where a fan directs it directly at the bubble. The fog is directed precisely to prevent overflow and dispersion throughout the room. The constant placement of the wand – rather than dipping into bubble solution – further prevents the dispersal of fog. Chauvet & Sons prides themselves on developing state of the art equipment for use in visual effects and entertainment.

What is the R&D Tax Credit?
The Research & Experimentation Tax Credit (or R&D Tax Credit), is a general business tax credit under Internal Revenue Code section 41 for companies that incur research and development (R&D) costs in the United States. The credits are a tax incentive for performing qualified research in the United States, resulting in a credit to a tax return. For the first three years of R&D claims, 6% of the total qualified research expenses (QRE) form the gross credit. In the 4th year of claims and beyond, a base amount is calculated, and an adjusted expense line is multiplied times 14%. Click here to learn more.
