Nevada Patent of the Month – July 2022
Aquaphant, Inc., a global leader in atmospheric water generation (AWG), has used their technology to bring water to your bedside. Waking up with a dry mouth and not having water is a sure way to ruin your sleep. Bed-bound patients needing to call a nurse for a cup of water may be left waiting if the nurses are busy. Having easy access to water is the best way to ensure you stay hydrated.
The company recently patented their water-dispensing method to support this furniture-based water delivery system. This system uses a water recovery process, water storage, treatment, and transport (STT), and a discharge process. The water recovery phase first converts gaseous water from the atmosphere into a liquid form. This liquid water is then treated to remove microorganisms and chemical contaminants. Finally, this treated water is transported through the rest of the STT to the discharge setup, where the water is dispensed in a controlled way.
This system is built into furniture, like a bed. The user simply needs to hold the nozzle down to dispense water pulled from the air. Their AWG technology provides a potential solution to delivering water to those without access. If water can be conveniently pulled from the air, treated, and dispensed, there is no need for anyone to face drought in their own home again.
Are you developing new technology for an existing application? Did you know your development work could be eligible for the R&D Tax Credit and you can receive up to 14% back on your expenses? Even if your development isn’t successful your work may still qualify for R&D credits (i.e. you don’t need to have a patent to qualify). To find out more, please contact a Swanson Reed R&D Specialist today or check out our free online eligibility test.

What is the R&D Tax Credit?
The Research & Experimentation Tax Credit (or R&D Tax Credit), is a general business tax credit under Internal Revenue Code section 41 for companies that incur research and development (R&D) costs in the United States. The credits are a tax incentive for performing qualified research in the United States, resulting in a credit to a tax return. For the first three years of R&D claims, 6% of the total qualified research expenses (QRE) form the gross credit. In the 4th year of claims and beyond, a base amount is calculated, and an adjusted expense line is multiplied times 14%. Click here to learn more.
