Rhode Island Patent of the Month – June 2022
Infinite Kingdoms, LLC, has been developing interactive gameplay for decades. In 1989 they created Interactive Waterplay so that kids and families had a way to play together in a water park. In 2005, they developed MagiQuest which combined retail tracking technologies with products to offer the first of its kind live action game. Regardless of the activity, Infinite Kingdoms believes hands-on interactivity and compelling experiences make all the difference.
This type of innovation is never complete. Recently, the company has patented their proprietary connected avatar technology. This avatar technology enhances entertainment experiences – like those seen in the interactive MagiQuest game – by providing a virtual assistant who helps a player perform tasks or guides them through challenges.
The avatar further immerses the player in the game through interaction and connectivity. The technology allows the avatar to recognize players or real-world items carried by the player in order to give real-time engagement and feedback. For instance, if a player is looking for clues or objects, the avatar can guide them on the right path and recognize when the player has found the object.
This is achieved through smart environment recognition which uses voice and gesture activation in addition to multiple cameras, RFIDs, or other contactless sensors to bridge the software and real world. The AI software tracks all the player’s previous actions (i.e. picked up X object) and uses this to inform the next steps. With greater immersion and interaction, Infinite Kingdom’s avatar technology brings people and entertainment together.

What is the R&D Tax Credit?
The Research & Experimentation Tax Credit (or R&D Tax Credit), is a general business tax credit under Internal Revenue Code section 41 for companies that incur research and development (R&D) costs in the United States. The credits are a tax incentive for performing qualified research in the United States, resulting in a credit to a tax return. For the first three years of R&D claims, 6% of the total qualified research expenses (QRE) form the gross credit. In the 4th year of claims and beyond, a base amount is calculated, and an adjusted expense line is multiplied times 14%. Click here to learn more.
