A new AI-powered system can  detect hidden health issues during routine medical imaging, potentially catching conditions before symptoms appear. The technology, developed by and The UAB Research Foundation, is detailed in U.S. Patent 12198799, titled “Opportunistic detection of patient conditions.”

The system analyzes existing medical images to identify key anatomical structures. It then segments these structures and calculates health metrics, flagging potential concerns for medical review. This process integrates seamlessly into current workflows, providing timely alerts to healthcare providers.
