Colorado Patent of the Month – October 2022

Quantinuum, LLC has their eyes set on accelerating quantum computing. In fact, they are currently the world’s largest integrated quantum computing company. They united Cambridge Quantum’s advanced software development with Honeywell Quantum Solutions’ high-fidelity hardware to accelerate quantum computing. The company is involved in developing quantum technologies across the field to drive and accelerate capabilities on all fronts. One such endeavor has recently been granted a patent.

The company’s newly patented holographic quantum dynamics simulation capabilities tackles the noisy qubits impacting quantum computing capabilities. Near-term quantum computing hardware has access to a limited number of quantum bits – or qubits. These noisy qubits make it difficult to effectively solve complex problems and need to be addressed to make quantum computing viable.

Quantinuum’s solution executes a quantum circuit using the physical qubits of the quantum computer. This circuit is made with circuit slices. The first slice comprises a past causal cone of a first system qubit wire at a fully evolved level of the circuit. Any other slice will contain gates that are within a previous causal cone of its own level and are not in the causal cone of the next. This methodology allows for varying circuit sizes to be created to suit the needs of any quantum computer. This process allows for effective simulations of the dynamics of a domain to be created even from a quantum computer with a small number of noisy qubits.

Are you developing new technology for an existing application? Did you know your development work could be eligible for the R&D Tax Credit and you can receive up to 14% back on your expenses? Even if your development isn’t successful your work may still qualify for R&D credits (i.e. you don’t need to have a patent to qualify). To find out more, please contact a Swanson Reed R&D Specialist today or check out our free online eligibility test.
